FROM THE BEGINNING UNTIL NOW

The Association of German Insurance Brokers (VDVM) was founded more than 90 years ago and is thus having a wealth of experience and many useful contacts.

In 1918 insurance brokers in Hamburg founded the Club of Hamburg Insurance Brokers. In 1989 this club changed its name to the Federal Association of German Insurance Brokers (BDVM). After its merger with the Association of Insurance Brokers (VMV) founded in 1984 in Munich the association was given its current name in 2002. VDVM is located in Hamburg with seven regional branch offices working locally.

At present 620 insurance broker companies with 12,000 employees are VDVM members with a growing tendency. The companies range from small business units to German subsidiaries of worldwide groups. The strategic focus of all our member’s activities is the commercial and industrial business which accounts for 80 percent. For this reason our members have a leading position especially for placing and servicing industrial and transport insurance contracts.

A strong advocacy group for German insurance brokers has become more and more important – particularly because of the changes in the business due to the increasing impact of European legislation. VDVM is in many ways active on a national and international level to advocate the professional needs of its members.
